The Gala took place on Sunday the 20th of July 2014, in warm and dry conditions, after a few days of bursts of very heavy showers. The Sun showed itself from time to time despite the forecast for rain and full cloud. We had the usual kit there, the 8" Celestron with a white light filter, the PST, big binoculars and Mark's 11" Celestron with a white light filter.
Lots of visitors, so a busy afternoon, with many enquiries and some additions to the list of emails that I use to invite visitors for Friday nights.
Helpers were the usuals, Paul and Elaine, Dave but not Lesley who was struck dumb with a sore throat. Mark, Sandra, and Peter. Rhys visited with his daughter, Peter Dawson came too.
We'd decided on the Thursday that we'd have a try at running a Star Registry for interested people. They donate £10 and we choose them a star and they give it a name. We add the data to our database and send them a Certificate and a photograph of the star. We had a few people interested, so will probably continue with the project.
